Get a Free Quote 07916 735568 10 years Roofing experience 9.96/10 Checkatrade rating £1 million Public liability Free Homeowner inspections Fixed Prices, no day rates Overview ## Why moss on your roof matters Moss thrives on north-facing and shaded roofs, especially in damp areas like the Somerset Levels and under trees. It looks harmless, but it holds water against the tiles, works its way under laps, and breaks off into gutters and downpipes. Our moss removal service clears moss from tiles, ridges and valleys by hand, cleans out the gutters, and checks the roof as we go. Because Travis is a roofer rather than a cleaning firm, any cracked tiles, failed mortar or slipped slates are spotted and reported with photos. Cleaning is done using careful methods that suit your roof covering, avoiding damage to tiles and the surface finish. The risk of waiting ## What happens if moss is left to build up Moss doesn't just sit on top of the roof. Over time, it causes real damage. ### Blocked gutters Moss washes into gutters and downpipes, causing overflow and damp walls. ### Lifted tiles Thick moss pushes up tile laps, letting wind and rain underneath. ### Frost damage Water held in moss freezes and can crack tiles and spall surfaces. ### Slower drying A permanently damp roof surface ages faster. ### Hidden faults Heavy growth can hide cracked or slipped tiles. ### Common mistakes homeowners make - Using a high-pressure jet wash, which can strip surfaces and force water under tiles. - Walking directly on fragile tiles without proper access equipment. - Clearing moss from the roof but leaving it in the gutters. Warning signs ## Signs you need moss removal & roof cleaning - Thick green moss growing on tiles, especially north-facing slopes - Moss clumps falling onto paths and into gutters - Gutters overflowing because outlets are blocked - Tiles visibly lifted at the laps - Dark streaks and lichen across the roof surface - Roof sitting under or near overhanging trees Pricing ## What affects the price We don't publish prices because every roof is different. After a free inspection you get one fixed price. These are the things that shape it. ### Roof size Larger roofs take longer to clear thoroughly. ### Amount of growth Light moss is quicker to clear than thick, established growth. ### Access Steep or high roofs may need more access equipment. ### Repairs found Any damaged tiles we find are photographed and priced separately; nothing is done without your agreement. In detail ## Roof cleaning in detail Different roofs need different treatment. This is how we approach moss removal on Somerset homes. “Travis came round, quoted clearly, turned up when he said he would, did the required job on time and on budget with skill. He kept me informed of any extra work needed, with evidence. In a world where many don't do what they say they are going to do, Travis does.”John D · TA2 · Checkatrade ### Concrete tile roofs Concrete tiles have a textured surface that moss grips easily. We remove moss by hand and with suitable tools, taking care not to damage the surface or the tile laps. ### Clay tile and slate roofs Clay and slate are more fragile and need gentle handling. Moss is lifted rather than scraped aggressively, and any loose or damaged units are noted for repair. ### Gutters and valleys Moss naturally collects in valleys and gutters. We clear both so rainwater can drain properly, which protects the roofline and walls. ### Shaded and north-facing roofs Roofs under trees or facing north stay damp longer and grow moss faster. We can advise on how often to have them checked. ### Spotting damage early Because we're working across the whole roof, it's an ideal time to catch slipped tiles, failed ridges or worn flashings before they cause leaks. Why homeowners choose Travis ## Why choose TB Roofing and Property Maintenance for moss removal & roof cleaning ### You deal with the roofer, not a salesman When you call about moss removal & roof cleaning, you speak to Travis. He inspects the roof, prices the work and carries it out himself, bringing in trusted labourers only on larger jobs. There's no handover between a surveyor, an office and a crew, so nothing gets lost along the way. ### Evidence before every decision You see photos of the problem before you're asked to spend anything. If extra work turns up once the job starts, you're shown the evidence and the options before anything changes. One customer put it simply: he kept them informed of any extra work needed, with evidence. ### A fixed price, not a day rate Every moss removal & roof cleaning job is quoted at a fixed price after a free inspection. You know the full cost up front, and it doesn't creep up if the job takes longer than expected. Travis prefers not to publish prices online, because guessing without seeing the roof helps nobody. ### Reviewed, insured and accountable TB Roofing and Property Maintenance is a Checkatrade member rated 9.96/10 by verified customers, with £1 million public liability insurance. Work is guaranteed, and the terms for your job are confirmed in writing with the quote. Reviews regularly mention turning up on time, working tidily and finishing on budget.
